Quality Engineer II/III

About the role

Opterus is seeking a Quality Engineer II/III to lead quality assurance across production programs, ensuring hardware meets customer, regulatory, and mission requirements. The role involves contract review, nonconformance ownership, and continuous improvement of manufacturing quality processes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead quality assurance activities for production and flight hardware manufacturing, serving as the QA lead on assigned programs.
• Review customer contracts and technical documentation for compliance and approve quality sign‑offs at key milestones.
• Own product nonconformances, conduct root cause analysis, and coordinate corrective and preventive actions.
• Support AS9100 QMS compliance, internal and supplier audits, and preparation for external audits.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, and program management to resolve quality issues and drive process improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial/Quality Engineering or related field.
• 2+ years (Level II) or 5+ years (Level III) experience in aerospace quality engineering, production quality, or mission assurance.
• Experience with flight hardware programs for NASA, DoD, or commercial space customers.
• Strong understanding of AS9100 or ISO 9001 standards.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Required skills

• AS9100 and ISO 9001 compliance knowledge.
• Inspection practices and nonconformance management.
• Corrective action processes and root cause analysis (e.g., 8D, fishbone, 5‑Whys).
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
