Mechanical Engineer II/III

About the role

Opterus Research & Development is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II or III to design and develop lightweight, high‑performance deployable structures for spacecraft and lunar missions. The role blends aerospace mechanisms, composites, and rapid prototyping in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and analyze deployable systems, creating CAD assemblies and detailed documentation using SolidWorks.
• Develop structural components from concept through prototyping, qualification, and production, including hands‑on cleanroom assembly.
• Test and validate components, analyze results, and confirm flight readiness.
• Iterate designs frequently, documenting performance and refining concepts based on test data.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to meet quality, schedule, and budget goals.
• Mentor junior mechanical engineers and support additional engineering duties as needed.

Required profile

• BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field.
• 2+ years experience for Mechanical Engineer II or 5+ years for Mechanical Engineer III.
• Experience with spacecraft design, deployable structures, or composites is strongly preferred.
• US citizen or permanent resident.

• Salary: $90,000‑$118,000 for Engineer II; $114,000‑$140,000 for Engineer III.
