Quail Research Laboratory Manager

About the role

The Ted and Donna Lyon Center for Gamebird Research at East Texas A&M University is seeking a motivated Quail Research Laboratory Manager to oversee daily operations of the Reyna Laboratory for Upland Gamebirds. The manager will ensure the facility runs efficiently, safely, and supports the center’s mission to develop sustainable gamebird populations and train future professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise day‑to‑day laboratory activities, including equipment maintenance, inventory control, and compliance with university safety regulations.
• Coordinate scheduling of research projects, field trips, and sample processing to meet project timelines.
• Manage laboratory staff, provide training, and oversee performance evaluations.
• Maintain accurate records, data management systems, and documentation required for grant reporting.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of biological materials in accordance with biosafety guidelines.
• Assist principal investigators with experimental design, protocol development, and troubleshooting.

Required profile

• Graduate‑level education in biology, animal science, or a related field.
• Proven experience managing a research laboratory, preferably in wildlife or gamebird studies.
• Strong understanding of laboratory safety, biosafety, and regulatory compliance.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
