Public Safety Officer – Evergreen (Campus Patrol)

About the role

The Public Safety Officer (Evergreen) supports a safe and secure campus environment at Prairie View A&M University, allowing faculty to teach and students to learn without distraction. The role involves providing general assistance, maintaining a visible uniformed presence, and responding to low‑risk incidents.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol campus grounds and buildings on foot or golf cart, reporting safety hazards and security deficiencies.
• Monitor hallways and classrooms to ensure a comfortable academic atmosphere.
• Write reports on suspicious activities and assist police officers as directed.
• Provide vehicle services such as jump‑starts and door unlocks, and enforce non‑law‑enforcement regulations (parking, smoking, etc.).
• Respond to medical, fire, or emergency calls, guide EMS/Fire personnel, and check fire alarms and extinguishers.
• Assist faculty, staff, students, and visitors with directions, information, and facility access.
• Lock and unlock doors according to schedule or request, and direct traffic during events.

• Capability to respond promptly to low‑risk incidents and assist emergency responders.
