Police Sergeant

About the role

The University Police Department seeks a qualified Police Sergeant to supervise officers, enforce campus regulations, and ensure a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise assigned police officers and personnel, evaluate performance, approve leave, and review reports and case files.
• Patrol the campus, investigate State Criminal Law and Transportation Code violations, manage crime scenes, and collect and process evidence.
• Provide training and in‑service seminars for subordinate officers and represent the department at meetings and inter‑agency collaborations.
• Testify in courts and student judicial hearings, and serve on committees, recruitment, and promotion boards.

Required profile

• High School diploma or GED with at least 15 college credit hours (or equivalent experience).
• Two years of law‑enforcement experience and intermediate certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
• Ability to work cooperatively, communicate effectively across campus, and perform under stressful conditions.
• Valid Texas Class C driver’s license (or ability to obtain within 30 days) and excellent physical health.
