About the role
We are looking for a hands‑on, results‑oriented Prototyping Specialist to join our engineering team in Waltham. You will manufacture prototype components, improve fabrication processes, and support product innovation through a variety of manufacturing technologies.
Key responsibilities
- Manufacture prototype parts for new product development and engineering validation.
- Program, set up, and operate 3‑axis CNC milling equipment to produce precision components.
- Perform post‑processing, inspection, and quality verification of machined parts.
- Fabricate non‑CNC components using manual mills, lathes, metal‑cutting, forming, woodworking, welding, brazing, and fiberglass lay‑up.
- Produce prototypes with FDM and SLA 3D‑printing technologies, including finishing.
- Assemble fabricated parts into functional prototype assemblies.
- Collaborate with engineers to modify designs and develop manufacturable solutions.
- Recommend improvements to methods, materials, and designs for better manufacturability and efficiency.
- Estimate timelines, prioritize work, and communicate status to stakeholders.
- Maintain a safe, organized shop, perform preventive maintenance, and calibrate CNC equipment.
- Monitor inventory of materials, tooling, and supplies, coordinating replenishment as needed.
- Identify and implement continuous‑improvement initiatives.
Required profile

- Experience working with a wide range of manufacturing technologies.
- Ability to collaborate closely with engineering teams and adapt designs for production.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Required skills
- 3‑axis CNC milling operation and programming.
- Manual machining (mills, lathes) and metal‑cutting/forming.
- Woodworking tools, welding, brazing, and fiberglass lay‑up.
- FDM and SLA 3D‑printing, post‑processing, and finishing.
- Inspection, quality verification, and preventive maintenance of shop equipment.
- Inventory management of materials, tooling, and supplies.
- Advanced CNC programming strategies and emerging additive manufacturing techniques (preferred for highly qualified candidates).
