Mechanical Engineer – Waltham, MA

About the role

Acorn Product Development is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Waltham, MA office. You will work on cutting‑edge product designs for Fortune 100 and fast‑growing start‑ups, turning concepts into manufacturable solutions. The role offers exposure to a variety of industries, including robotics, medical devices, and consumer products.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with clients to capture requirements and develop innovative product concepts.
• Create detailed 3‑D models, drawings, and engineering documentation for molded, sheet‑metal, and machined components.
• Perform mechanical analyses such as tolerance studies, FEA, CFD, strength of materials, heat‑transfer, and shock/vibration assessments.
• Interface with ID/UX teams to refine designs and ensure usability.
• Coordinate with vendors for prototyping, tooling, and production runs.
• Test and evaluate prototypes, tooling, and first‑article parts, generating technical reports as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent; Master’s preferred.
• 3+ years of design and engineering analysis experience, including at least one complex electromechanical product transitioned to production.
• Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to thrive in fast‑paced product development teams.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and certification processes.
• Hands‑on shop/lab experience; project‑management exposure is a plus.

• SolidWorks (Creo experience a plus).
• Proficiency with ASME Y14.5 documentation standards.
