Project Engineer - Electrical Controls

About the role

A well‑established process automation and software systems firm in the South is seeking a full‑time Project Engineer – Electrical Controls. This dual‑role combines project leadership with hands‑on technical work across brownfield modernization and greenfield builds.

Key responsibilities

• Lead projects from front‑end engineering design (FEED) through commissioning and handoff.
• Manage schedules, milestones and financials while serving as the primary client contact.
• Define electrical design scope, documentation standards and direct systems engineers and designers.
• Develop and manage subcontract packages and oversee cut‑over planning, including live/hot cutovers.
• Perform design and systems‑engineering work when required.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in industrial automation or controls project engineering.
• Self‑directed, calm under pressure and strong communicator.
• Willingness to travel regionally, including overnight stays.

Required skills

• DCS and/or PLC control systems, HMIs, PC networking.
• Industrial network protocols: Modbus, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, Profibus, OPC.
• Low‑voltage AC (≤480 V), DC power systems and grounding.
• Motor controls, MCCs, VFDs and process instrumentation.
• Reading, interpreting and redlining P&IDs, electrical one‑lines and plot plans.
• AutoCAD Electrical (plus).
