Program Director, Child Welfare Services

About the role

The Georgia Department of Human Services, Division of Family & Children Services, is seeking a Program Director to lead Child Welfare Services in Augusta, Richmond County. This senior position oversees policies and programs that protect children and families, ensuring safety and service delivery across the state.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze and assess the effectiveness of existing child welfare programs to meet outcome measures.
• Ensure agency compliance with policies, documentation, and reporting requirements.
• Develop and administer program budgets and financial resources.
• Interview, hire, train, evaluate, and, when necessary, discipline social services staff.
• Manage human‑resources functions and direct administrative activities for social services teams.
• Review new and current programs for efficiency, effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.
• Foster cooperative relationships with other agencies, community partners, and the county DFCS Board.
• Serve as a member of the agency management team, establishing goals and policies aligned with the division’s mission.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
• At least two years of experience managing subordinate supervisors in a human‑service delivery program, or equivalent experience at a lower‑level child welfare position.
• Relevant background in social work, psychology, sociology, child development, public health, or public administration is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to lead teams, develop budgets, and ensure compliance with state, local, and federal regulations.
• Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and acceptable driving record.
