Professional Healthcare Worker (Public Health Practicum)

About the role

The Georgia Department of Public Health is seeking a qualified candidate for a Professional Healthcare Worker practicum in the Epidemiology Section. The role supports notifiable disease surveillance through case‑patient interviewing, data entry, chart reviews and other clerical tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct telephone interviews with case‑patients for communicable disease surveillance, special studies and outbreak investigations.
• Enter and manage data using Excel and the Georgia electronic notifiable disease surveillance system.
• Perform medical chart reviews and assist with data collection for enteric and invasive bacterial disease surveillance.
• Work 15‑20 hours per week with a flexible schedule, currently remote but requiring onsite presence at the DPH office in downtown Atlanta for more than half of the time when in‑person work resumes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and enrollment in a graduate public‑health program.
• At least one year of related work experience.
• Preference for candidates who also have experience with databases, conducting interviews, or Spanish language skills.
