Professional Healthcare Worker – Public Health Internship

About the role

The Georgia Department of Public Health seeks a motivated Professional Healthcare Worker to support notifiable disease surveillance within the Epidemiology Section. This practicum‑based position offers hands‑on experience in case‑patient interviewing, data management, and outbreak investigations while working part‑time.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct case‑patient interviews for communicable disease surveillance and outbreak investigations.
• Enter and manage data using Excel and the Georgia electronic notifiable disease surveillance system.
• Perform medical chart reviews and other clerical tasks to support notifiable disease reporting.
• Assist with special studies and data collection for the Emerging Infections Program.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and enrollment in a graduate public‑health program.
• At least one year of related work experience.
• Preference for candidates with experience in databases, conducting interviews, or Spanish language proficiency.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Experience using databases for public‑health surveillance.
