About the role

Join Ochsner’s Baptist team as a PRN Sonographer, providing advanced diagnostic ultrasound services in collaboration with staff radiologists. This position offers the chance to mentor junior staff while delivering high‑quality imaging in a compassionate, inclusive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Verify physician orders and perform ultrasound procedures according to safety protocols.
• Operate imaging equipment independently, assist radiologists in guided procedures, and ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
• Complete quality‑control checks, maintain departmental inventory, and support equipment maintenance.
• Explain procedures to patients, adapt communication to diverse populations, and uphold patient privacy.

Required profile

• Completion of a CAHEA‑approved diagnostic medical sonography program.
• RDMS certification (or eligibility within one year of hire) and Basic Life Support certification.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and on‑call availability.

Required skills

• Proficiency with diagnostic ultrasound equipment.
• Experience using radiology information systems and other computer applications.
• Knowledge of abdominal anatomy and pathology for liver, gallbladder, kidneys, spleen, aorta, bile ducts, and pancreas.
