Power Electronics Engineer

About the role

Moog is seeking a Power Electronics Engineer to join its Space and Defense Power & Data team in Blacksburg, Virginia. The role focuses on designing, simulating, and troubleshooting power supply and converter systems that support both low‑power point‑of‑load supplies and high‑power resonant converters for advanced defense and space applications.

Key responsibilities

• Perform circuit‑level design, simulation, and troubleshooting for power electronics applications.
• Lead small project teams and interpret customer specifications to define system requirements.
• Apply thermal design techniques to select component packages and develop thermal management solutions.
• Design for electromagnetic interference (EMI) control and susceptibility mitigation.
• Select, test, and document electronic components for new and existing product lines.
• Design and evaluate magnetics components such as transformers, inductors, and ferrite cores.
• Develop prototype testing hardware and methods for power electronics systems.
• Provide field support and visit customers as needed.
• Collaborate with CPES at Virginia Tech to stay current on technological advancements.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• At least 3 years of hands‑on power electronics design experience.
• Familiarity with multiple power converter topologies and control‑loop theory.
• Experience using circuit simulation tools such as PSIM or MATLAB.
• Desirable experience with magnetic circuit simulation (e.g., ANSYS Maxwell).
