About the role
The State of Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking a senior civil engineer to lead the Policy Standards & Final Plans Control Unit. This position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and ensuring uniform use of structural design policies, standards, and special provisions across the department.
Key responsibilities
- Direct research and development of structural policies, standards, and special provisions, including updates to the Bridge Manual, Culvert Manual, and related design memoranda.
- Develop and maintain construction cost and time estimates for structures used by the Federal Highway Administration, central Bureau of Design and Environment, and district offices.
- Monitor and implement revisions to final structure project assemblies in coordination with Project Coordination and Implementation sections.
- Evaluate and recommend new design and construction techniques, products, and materials, ensuring they meet departmental standards.
- Oversee the preparation of cost and time estimates for new bridge designs, products, and construction methods.
