Electrician – Menard Correctional Center

About the role

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a qualified Electrician to join the team at Menard Correctional Center. The position involves maintaining all electrical systems and electrically‑driven mechanical equipment within the facility, while also supervising assigned individuals in custody.

Key responsibilities

• Perform journeyman‑level electrical work, including construction, installation, alteration, and repair of electrical systems and fixtures.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrically driven mechanical equipment and associated components.
• Maintain an accurate inventory of electrical supplies and parts.
• Supervise and guide assigned individuals in custody regarding electrical work tasks.

Required profile

• Valid journeyman electrician certification or equivalent experience.
• Ability to work full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm on‑site at Menard, IL.
• Willingness to comply with union collective bargaining agreement provisions.

Required skills

• Electrical systems installation and maintenance.
• Repair of electrical equipment and fixtures.
• Knowledge of electrically driven mechanical equipment.
