About the role
The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) provides direct patient care in home‑care settings under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. The role involves teaching mobility exercises, using assistive devices, and applying therapeutic modalities to improve patient function.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver physical therapy treatments according to the plan of care, focusing on mobility, strength, and coordination.
- Instruct patients, families, and staff on exercise techniques, use of crutches, canes, walkers, and other assistive devices.
- Apply modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and massage as indicated.
- Measure and document patient progress and communicate updates to the supervising PT.
- Ensure cost‑effective care and comply with billing guidelines and regulatory documentation requirements.
Required profile
- Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapy Assisting.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification (Pennsylvania) upon hire.
- Ability to work at multiple locations on a per‑diem basis and provide safe, compassionate care.
- Physical ability to lift/carry 40‑50 lb, stand/walk for long periods, and perform patient transfers.
Required skills
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Proficiency with therapeutic ultrasound and electrical stimulation equipment.
- Knowledge of gait training and assistive device selection.
