Pediatric Cardiac ICU Advanced Practice Provider

About the role

The Pediatric Cardiac ICU team at Ochsner Health provides collaborative, high‑quality care for critically ill children. The role works under the supervision of the Medical Director and in partnership with physicians, nurses, and discharge coordinators to manage acute and urgent medical needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide primary and urgent medical management, including emergency stabilization of critically ill patients.
• Teach residents, medical students, and staff; contribute to staff development and education.
• Participate in patient education, discharge planning, and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
• Utilize approved medical practice processes and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

Required profile

• NP: Master’s degree in Nursing; PA: Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant studies or related health sciences.
• Current state license (APRN for NP, PA license for PA) and relevant certifications.
• Eligible for prescriptive authority in the state of practice.
• Reliable transportation and ability to work flexible schedules, including on‑call, weekends, and holidays.

Required skills

• Acute Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP‑AC) certification (for NP).
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Computer proficiency with Windows applications and data entry.
