Paralegal supporting Financial Aid and General Counsel

About the role

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks a full‑time, non‑exempt Paralegal to split duties between the Office of Student Financial Aid and the Office of the General Counsel. The role supports legal compliance, case management, and records requests while reporting to the Director of Financial Aid.

Key responsibilities

• Manage Borrower Defense cases, track Department of Education claims, deadlines, and required submissions.
• Conduct detailed fact‑finding investigations, research institutional records, and maintain FERPA confidentiality.
• Research federal regulations, draft comprehensive responses, and keep audit‑ready case files.
• Process Maryland Public Information Act requests, coordinate records searches, calculate fees, and prepare documents for production.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• At least four years of professional legal experience.
• Excellent research, written and oral communication skills.

Required skills

• Legal research involving federal, state, and administrative statutes and case law.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
