Paralegal (Legal Assistant I)

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Paralegal/Legal Assistant I who works under close supervision with assistance readily available. The position is an hourly, overtime-eligible role under the Service Contract Act, paid $23.46 per hour, and is open until filled.

Key responsibilities

• Research prescribed sources of information on matters of interest to the program
• File documents such as nondisclosure orders, search warrants with sealing orders, and 6(e) notices, amendments and compliance filings for grand jury read-ins
• Review documents to extract data and information, and compile subpoena packets
• Summarize case precedent and decisions in a prescribed format
• Docket calendar deadlines, status conferences and arraignments for assigned prosecutors
• Search and extract legal references in libraries and computer data banks
• Attend hearings or court appearances to learn court procedures and case status, and assist in presenting charts and other visual information

Required profile

• MRPT facility credentials or authorization (US citizenship required for this location)
• Paralegal certificate, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study; one year of legal training or experience or two years of college may substitute
• At least one year of litigation paralegal or project experience; trial experience very helpful
• Basic legal knowledge, including standard legal citation, and experience with legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to deliver high-quality work under extreme pressure

Required skills

• Word processing, databases (document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging and hardware systems
• Basic familiarity with ESI tools and eDiscovery procedures
