Outside Sales Representative Trainee

About the role

The Home Depot Outside Sales Representative Training Program lasts 10-12 months and lets candidates develop sales skills through job rotations that directly impact the Pro business. Trainees learn day-to-day sales operations and how distribution centers, stores, inside sales and outside sales drive Pro growth. Successful completion makes candidates eligible for promotion to Outside Sales Representative roles in the US market.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in meetings across the Pro business and build networking relationships with mentorship and coaching from the direct manager and rotation managers (20%).
• Complete weekly and monthly professional development training, including instructor-led selling courses and eLearning (10%).
• Shadow stores, distribution centers, other company facilities and customer locations to learn about products and services in the wholesale construction industry (70%).
• Take part in real-world scenarios, simulations and job shadowing, with professional development such as networking events, leadership exposure and mentoring.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• Valid driver's license from a U.S. state or territory; overnight travel under 10% of the time.
• Must be able to stand or walk continuously and lift or carry material of moderate weight (8-20 pounds).
• High school diploma or GED minimum; preferred: bachelor's degree in a field related to the job.
• Preferred: excellent written and verbal communication, problem-solving and analytical skills, teamwork ability, and 1 year of work experience.

Required skills

• Preferred: working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Preferred: Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Professional Sales or Consultative Selling.
