Outdoor Adventure Staff – Federal Work Study

About the role

The Outdoor Adventure Staff position is a Federal Work Study role supporting Campus Recreation’s Climbing Wall and outdoor facilities. As a student worker you will help ensure safe, enjoyable experiences for patrons while gaining hands‑on experience in outdoor programming.

Key responsibilities

• Enforce program rules and safety policies across all outdoor areas.
• Check‑in patrons, deliver safety orientations, and manage climbing wall operations using Fusion software.
• Inspect, maintain, and set climbing routes; provide belay support and equipment inspections.
• Set up and break down challenge‑course stations, belay high‑rope elements, and operate zip‑line and giant‑swing equipment.
• Assist with trip planning, gear packing, participant instruction, and post‑trip debriefs.
• Support event setup, cooking, fire management, and equipment rentals.
• Perform routine maintenance of outdoor facilities using hand tools such as weed trimmers, hedge clippers, and brush mowers.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled undergraduate student eligible for Federal Work Study.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
• Physical capability to lift equipment, climb, and perform outdoor maintenance tasks.
• Strong attention to safety and ability to follow written policies.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Fusion software for patron check‑in and data entry.
• Basic computer application skills for record‑keeping and scheduling.

What we offer

• Hourly wage of $11.00.
• Federal Work Study credit and valuable experience in outdoor recreation management.
