Operations Assistant Store Manager in Training

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring an Operations Assistant Store Manager in Training (OASM-IT) for its North Tulsa store. The trainee gains hands-on experience in the key responsibilities of an Assistant Store Manager through a structured training program of up to 6 weeks, including mentorship and leadership development. The trainee learns the Manager on Duty duties and manages aspects of the store such as associates, sales, customer service, safety standards, product availability, store presentation and profitability, working with the Store Manager, Assistant Store Managers and operational field teams.

Key responsibilities

• Training and preparation (about 50%): complete a structured program covering retail store management, operations, customer service, sales and profitability, and company policies; learn staffing and scheduling, resolving stock shortages, coaching associates on selling behavior, handling customer issues, and the performance management and disciplinary process.
• Customer experience (about 15%): supervise associates in the selling effort, drive customer service and engagement, and resolve customer concerns promptly.
• Sales and productivity (about 15%): plan merchandise placement and stock integrity through inventory management, and learn to maintain and operate store equipment and systems and manage daily financial operations.
• Operations management (about 10%): perform opening and closing duties, follow SOPs including safety compliance, and help mitigate shrink.
• Safety (about 10%): ensure self and associates follow safety and hazmat procedures.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or GED; a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field is preferred.
• At least 3 years of work experience, with 2+ years of leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams; certifications not required.

Travel is typically less than 5% overnight, and the work involves standing, walking and lifting moderate-weight items (8-20 pounds) in an indoor setting.
