Operations Assistant Store Manager in Training

About the role

The Home Depot offers an Operations Assistant Store Manager in Training (OASM-IT) program at its Madison store. The trainee gains hands-on experience in the key responsibilities of an Assistant Store Manager through a structured training program of up to 6 weeks, including mentorship and leadership development. The trainee learns the Manager on Duty duties and oversees areas such as the Customer Service Desk, Receiving, Tool Rental, Order Fulfillment, Lot Loaders and the Back Office, working with the Store Manager, Assistant Store Managers and operational field teams.

Key responsibilities

• Training and preparation for the Assistant Manager position: complete all assigned training modules and assessments, and learn staffing and scheduling, resolving stock shortages, coaching associates on selling behavior, handling customer issues and managing performance reviews and discipline.
• Customer experience: supervise associates in the selling effort, drive customer service and engagement, and resolve customer concerns promptly.
• Sales and productivity: plan merchandise placement and stock integrity through inventory management, and learn to maintain and operate store equipment and systems and manage daily financial operations.
• Operations management: perform opening and closing duties, follow SOPs, hold associates accountable for company policies and mitigate shrink.
• Safety: ensure self and associates follow safety and hazmat procedures.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or GED; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
• At least 3 years of work experience, with 2+ years of leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Physical requirements include continuous standing or walking and regularly lifting or carrying material of moderate weight (8-20 pounds); the role involves occasional mild discomfort and typically less than 5% overnight travel.
