Operations Assistant Store Manager in Training

About the role

The Home Depot South Setauket store offers an Operations Assistant Store Manager in Training (OASM-IT) program. The trainee gains hands-on experience in the key responsibilities of an Operations Assistant Store Manager through a structured training program of up to 6 weeks, including mentorship and leadership development. The trainee learns the Manager on Duty duties and manages aspects of the store such as associates, sales, customer service, safety standards, product availability, store presentation and profitability, working with the Store Manager, Assistant Store Managers and operational field teams.

Key responsibilities

• Training and preparation for the Assistant Manager position: complete all assigned training modules and assessments, and learn staffing and scheduling, resolving stock deficiencies, coaching associates on selling behavior, handling customer issues and managing performance reviews and discipline.
• Customer experience: supervise associates in the selling effort, drive customer service and engagement, and resolve customer concerns promptly.
• Sales and productivity: plan merchandise placement and signing, support stock integrity through inventory management, and learn to maintain and operate store equipment and systems and manage daily financial operations.
• Operations management: perform opening, closing and other whole-store focus tasks, follow SOPs including safety compliance, and help mitigate shrink.
• Safety: ensure self and associates follow safety and hazmat procedures and Safety Matters guidelines.

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States.
• High school diploma or GED; a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field is preferred.
• At least 3 years of work experience, with 2+ years of leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams; action oriented, communicates effectively, customer focused and resourceful.
• Physical requirements: continuous standing or walking, and regular lifting or carrying of moderate-weight material (8-20 pounds); indoor conditions, with occasional mild discomfort.
• Travel of less than 5% overnight.

Pay range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Nevada, New York City, Ithaca (NY), Westchester County (NY) and Washington residents: $75,000 - $85,000.
