Open Rank Tenure‑Track Faculty – Theoretical Gravity & Astrophysics

About the role

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at LSU seeks an open‑rank tenure‑track faculty member at the assistant, associate, or full professor level to develop an independent research program in theoretical gravity and related astrophysics areas.

Key responsibilities

• Establish or strengthen an independent research program in theoretical gravity, quantum field theory in curved spacetime, numerical relativity, or related astrophysics fields.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in physics and astronomy and supervise graduate student research.
• Participate in departmental, university, and professional service activities and develop collaborations within LSU.

Required profile

• PhD in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field (or ABD with degree conferred by start date).
• For associate‑rank: minimum three years as an assistant professor with a sustained record of scholarly productivity.
• For full professor: minimum five years as an associate professor with distinguished research, teaching, and leadership.

Required skills

• Theoretical gravity, including quantum and semiclassical gravity.
• Quantum field theory in curved spacetime.
• Numerical relativity and time‑domain multimessenger astrophysics.
• Computational high‑energy, nuclear, and relativistic plasma astrophysics.
