Open Rank Faculty in Physical AI, Robotics & Autonomous Systems

About the role

Northeastern University’s Bouvé College of Health Sciences seeks an open‑rank, tenure‑track faculty member to lead interdisciplinary research and teaching at the intersection of Physical AI, robotics, and communication sciences. The position may include a joint appointment with the College of Engineering or the College of Arts, Media, and Design.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in physical AI, robotics, and related health technologies.
• Establish an independent, externally funded research program focused on semi‑autonomous systems, digital twins, wearable biosensors, and socially assistive robotics for health applications.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including mentorship of diverse student populations.

Required profile

• PhD (or equivalent) in Communication Sciences & Disorders, Biomedical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a closely related field by the start date.
• Evidence of expertise in physical AI or embodied sensing systems applied to health, demonstrated through publications, funded projects, or technology development.
• For associate‑professor rank: minimum 5 years of relevant experience; for full‑professor rank: minimum 10 years.
