Mid-Level Software Engineer (React, Remote)

About the role

A private foundation, founded by the founder of a major technology company and working across education, health and climate, is hiring a mid-level software engineer. Its flagship education programme is a digital learning platform reaching over ten million registered learners across more than forty countries, working online, on mobile and fully offline. You would be the second engineer in-house, working alongside the Lead Software Engineer and an external technical consultant.

The platform is mid-migration: a legacy monolith is being progressively replaced by a modern Next.js and .NET stack on Azure, without interrupting current users. Continuous integration was brought in-house last year, the legacy app was containerised for local development, and the architecture for version 2 is established. You will write code from day one against defined feature work, with the Lead Engineer owning architecture, and there is room to own larger features end to end as V2 matures.

Required profile

• Around 3-5 years of professional software engineering experience
• Strong mission-driven orientation and motivation to make an impact
• Comfortable across the stack, roughly 80% frontend and 20% backend, and not someone who avoids backend work
• A self-starter who can cut through ambiguity in a small team
• Helpful but not required: comfort with being the second engineer in-house alongside a Lead and an external consultant

Required skills

• Strong production React (essential)
• Helpful: Next.js, Azure, C# or .NET
• Helpful: experience in education, international development or building for low-connectivity environments

What we offer

• Salary of USD 125,000-150,000 per year
