Member of Technical Staff (Security, Engineering, Research)

About the role

Security Level 5 is a Bay Area AI security nonprofit focused on defending frontier AI labs against nation‑state threats. As a Member of Technical Staff you will help design and build the first datacenter purpose‑built to the SL5 standard, protecting AI training infrastructure from sophisticated adversaries.

Key responsibilities

• Design and operationalize network, machine, physical, personnel, and supply‑chain security for an SL5 datacenter.
• Threat‑model AI training infrastructure against nation‑state adversaries and conduct red‑team exercises.
• Design and run experiments to assess productivity impacts of SL5 on frontier AI workloads.
• Build custom security tooling to meet SL5 requirements.
• Co‑develop standards with labs and government stakeholders and publish research for technical and policy audiences.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in infrastructure security engineering, security research, threat intelligence, or red‑team work (or 2+ years building and stress‑testing training infrastructure at a frontier AI lab).
• Hands‑on experience shipping or compromising production systems and understanding clean design versus merely passing review.
• Ability to think like a state‑level adversary in writing, architecture, or code.
• Clear communication with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Desire for security work that has impact beyond the company.

• Base salary range $200,000 – $350,000 per year, with potential for higher compensation for exceptional candidates.
