Medical Technologist – Hematology

About the role

Ochsner Health is seeking a Medical Technologist specialized in Hematology to join its laboratory team. The role involves receiving, preparing, and testing patient specimens to support accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized hematology laboratory tests independently, ensuring timely and accurate results.
• Conduct quality control, instrument maintenance, and troubleshooting, documenting corrective actions as needed.
• Maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, including safety and proficiency testing protocols.
• Manage inventory of supplies and reagents, supporting cost‑reduction initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related scientific field.
• Current Clinical Lab Scientist Generalist license (or trainee permit) for the state of practice.
• ASCP, AMT, or AAB generalist certification obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and good judgment in conflict resolution.

Required skills

• Computer data‑entry skills and proficiency with Windows‑style applications.
• Phlebotomy techniques appropriate for specimen collection.
• Analytical and problem‑solving abilities for test interpretation and equipment troubleshooting.
