Medical Records Clerk

About the role

UnitedHealth Group (Optum) is hiring a Medical Records Clerk in Farmington, Connecticut, for an onsite position at 3 Farm Glen Blvd. The clerk helps organize and destroy online records so that the record retention policy is maintained. Travel to practice sites across Connecticut is required, and the role is full-time, Monday to Friday, in an 8-hour day from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with occasional overtime possible. Up to two weeks of on-the-job training is offered.

Key responsibilities

• Store and manage records and files in line with record management procedures and regulations
• Follow confidentiality rules when filing and storing documents
• Create electronic and paper files needed to store documents
• Review records to identify files that can be shredded or sent to record storage
• Submit files to records management using the appropriate procedures
• Help offices box and file patient records for storage, review or destruction

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience
• Aged 18 or older
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
• Willingness to travel throughout Connecticut and work full-time, Monday to Friday

Preferred qualifications

• Knowledge of medical record processing
• Knowledge of the sharecare portal and services
• Knowledge of HIPAA rules and compliance
