Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Excelitas Technologies is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and model tooling and equipment that support optical fabrication and coating processes at its Boulder, CO facility.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal customers to define mechanical requirements.
• Manage multiple parallel projects as a self‑starter.
• Conduct analyses to assess and validate product designs and processes.
• Support NPI Technical Lead to ensure manufacturability of new designs.
• Design tooling for precision optics production and lead design reviews.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field (advanced degree desirable).
• Proficiency with CAD software, specifically SolidWorks.
• Effective communication and organizational skills.

Required skills

• Build complex assembly models and create detailed mechanical drawings and specifications.
• Experience with Product Documentation Management (PDM) systems.
• Familiarity with DFMEA (design failure mode and effects analysis) is desirable.
