About the role
Join the State of Georgia’s Department of Juvenile Justice as a Math Teacher at the Dekalb Regional Youth Detention Center in Decatur. Under the supervision of a designated supervisor, you will develop and deliver mathematics instruction to youth in a secure facility, fostering academic growth and personal development.
Key responsibilities
- Develop lesson plans, schemes of work, tests and instructional materials aligned with state standards.
- Deliver mathematics lessons using relevant technology and differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs.
- Manage classroom behavior, enforce rules, and maintain a safe learning environment.
- Assess student progress, provide feedback, record grades and maintain accurate student records.
- Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings, and communicate student progress to stakeholders.
Required profile
- Completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution.
- Eligibility to obtain a Georgia Clear and Renewable Teacher Certificate (or hold a Provisional Georgia Educator’s Certificate).
- Preference for candidates with an SRT‑4 or higher rating in Mathematics.
- Prior experience with at‑risk youth is a plus but not required.
