About the role
The Master Pilot Plant Technician works in the Tape Process Development Center (TPDC) of 3M's Chemical Manufacturing Operations. This role supports prototype‑scale production, new material development, and process improvements for multiple 3M divisions. You will collaborate with R&D teams, process engineers, and global partners to advance innovative products.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain a safe work environment and use personal protective equipment.
- Test and disposition manufactured products and raw materials using various analytical techniques.
- Communicate test results to technical personnel and provide recommendations.
- Support R&D by executing and evaluating new test methods.
- Report quality data and collaborate with onsite teams to act on findings.
- Set up, operate, maintain, clean, and change over development equipment.
- Conduct product and process experiments with engineers and customers.
- Train new personnel on equipment, machine operations, and processes.
- Maintain accurate production reporting and inventory to ensure raw‑material availability.
- Perform physical tasks such as lifting pails, moving drums, and driving PIVs.
Required profile
- High school diploma/GED or higher (verified before start).
- At least three (3) years of combined laboratory, pilot‑plant, or manufacturing experience in a private, public, government, or military setting.
Required skills
- Analytical testing techniques.
- Equipment setup, operation, and maintenance.
- Inventory reporting and material handling.
