Maintenance Trainee

About the role

Join 3M as a Maintenance Trainee and work on production and packaging equipment in Indianapolis. You will receive a four‑year blend of on‑the‑job and classroom training that leads to a certification and prepares you for a maintenance technician career.

Key responsibilities

• Perform troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repairs on production and packaging equipment.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to diagnose equipment failures and implement root‑cause solutions.
• Analyze maintenance data to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and product quality.
• Apply knowledge of electrical power distribution components and system design limits.
• Read and follow engineering drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals using both U.S. customary and metric measurements.
• Assemble, install, align, and commission machinery, fixtures, and related equipment.
• Set up and operate precision measuring tools such as scales, dial indicators, micrometers, gauges, and optical alignment instruments.
• Demonstrate safe work practices to protect yourself and coworkers.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED or higher, completed and verified before start.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Willingness to work onsite in Indianapolis, Indiana.
• Ability to travel 0% and no relocation assistance provided.

Required skills

• Troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of production equipment.
• Knowledge of electrical power distribution systems.
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
• Assembling, installing, and aligning machinery and fixtures.
