Mail Clerk (GS-5)

About the role

NASA Stennis Space Center is hiring two permanent, full-time Mail Clerks (GS-5, competitive service) to handle clerical work on incoming and outgoing mail. The work follows the prompt and systematic flow of material from originator to receiver. The position is telework eligible according to agency policy, and the salary range is $40,736 to $52,957 per year.

Key responsibilities

• Communicate with other agencies, private entities, organizations or individuals via the U.S. Postal Service, private carriers, wire services or messengers.
• Receive and sort incoming mail by its identification symbol, pick up material at mail point stops and sort it for route delivery.
• Deliver incoming mail throughout the organization.
• Dispatch outgoing mail, prepare forms and control sheets, and pouch or wrap materials as needed for mailing or shipping.
• Log data on outgoing mail for work count and work measurement purposes.

Required profile

• Open to U.S. citizens, nationals or those owing allegiance to the U.S.; a one-year probationary period may apply.
• Qualification for GS-5: one year of directly related specialized experience at the GS-04 level (mail processing, obtaining receipt signatures, operating mail room equipment, keeping the mail room secure); or four years of post-secondary study in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school (at least 20 hours of classroom instruction over 36 weeks); or four years of study in an accredited junior college, college or university (at least 30 semester or 45 quarter hours).
• Subject to a pre-employment background investigation or higher-level clearance, depending on location and center requirements.
