Lab Manager

About the role

The Electronic Lab Manager supports the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department by ensuring safe, effective, and reliable operation of electronic teaching and research laboratories. This fully in‑person position provides hands‑on technical expertise in electronics assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and instrumentation.

Key responsibilities

• Assemble, install, repair, and maintain electronic equipment, instrumentation, and experimental systems for teaching and research.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to students, teaching assistants, and capstone design projects, including safety oversight and troubleshooting.
• Support undergraduate laboratory classes by preparing samples, solving equipment issues, and assisting faculty in curriculum development.
• Offer electronics expertise to faculty research labs and shared facilities, advising on sensor selection, data acquisition, and equipment use.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience or equivalent education/experience.
• Vocational training or technical certification in electrical controls preferred.
• Ability to work occasional evenings or Saturdays and coordinate with EHS, Facilities, and Risk Management.

Required skills

• Programming with Arduino and Raspberry Pi; circuit design and sensor selection.
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Hands‑on skills in soldering, wiring, and electrical testing equipment.
• Knowledge of power supplies, mechanical/electrical testing equipment, and safe operation procedures.
