Lab Assistant – Blood Bank (Full‑Time) – Jeff Hwy

About the role

The Lab Assistant supports the Blood Bank by performing a variety of laboratory functions, including phlebotomy, specimen receipt, processing, and distribution. This position works a 5‑8 hour shift each week, primarily as a second‑shift employee handling blood component processing and assisting with routine laboratory assistant duties.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and process patient specimens, including phlebotomy and centrifugation.
• Enter and retrieve data in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and perform specimen labeling, aliquoting, and distribution.
• Perform waived and moderately complex laboratory procedures, maintain equipment, and conduct quality‑control checks.
• Issue blood components, review orders, and manage inventory of supplies.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; formal phlebotomy training preferred.
• Experience working in a controlled environment with safety measures for chemicals and blood‑borne pathogens.
• Current Louisiana Laboratory Assistant or Laboratory Assistant Trainee license (must be obtained within 180 days of hire).
• Ability to work independently, manage stress, and maintain professional conduct.
