Intake Specialist – Substance Use Disorder Treatment Center

About the role

The Intake Specialist conducts screenings and facilitates client admissions into CRI‑Help’s residential substance‑use disorder programs, ensuring accurate documentation and appropriate level of care.

Key responsibilities

• Handle inquiries, schedule and conduct eligibility screenings, and assess applicants using tools such as ASAM, CalOMS, and mental status assessments.
• Complete admission paperwork, verify private insurance benefits, conduct pre‑certifications, and assist clients with Medi‑Cal applications.
• Provide crisis intervention for red‑flag cases, perform urinalysis tests, and conduct client searches as needed.
• Collaborate with Clinical Director, nurses, and other staff to deliver coordinated care and introduce clients to Twelve‑Step programs.

Required profile

• 2–3 years of admissions/intake experience, preferably in substance‑use treatment.
• Excellent written and oral communication, documentation, and time‑management skills.
• Professional demeanor, diplomatic approach, and ability to work in a fast‑paced 24/7 environment.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Required skills

• Proficiency with assessment tools: ASAM, CalOMS, Mental Status Assessment, Suicide Risk Assessment, Brief Trauma Assessment, PrePare, Tobacco Assessment.
• Knowledge of Medi‑Cal benefit verification and Master Aid Codes.
• Experience with private‑insurance verification and pre‑certification processes.
