Lead Medication Nurse – Substance Use Disorder Treatment

About the role

CRI‑Help is seeking a Lead Medication Nurse to oversee medication administration for clients in its Substance Use Disorder (SUD) residential program. The role partners with the Director of Nursing to ensure safe self‑administration, accurate documentation, and compliance with clinical protocols across multiple sites in Los Angeles County.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise Medication Nurses, Medication Coordinators, and Residential Support Technicians, providing training and performance reviews.
• Receive and transcribe prescribing clinicians’ orders, observe client self‑administration, and document observations in the EHR.
• Assess medication reactions, adherence, and vital signs; clear clients for activities such as kitchen volunteering and bedrest.
• Review medication logs for errors, maintain a minimum 65 % DMC billing productivity, and be on‑call for after‑hours queries.
• Coordinate care documentation, incident reports, and schedule monthly staffing for medication teams.

Required profile

• Licensed Registered Nurse (California Board of Registered Nursing) with active CPR/BLS certification.
• At least two years of clinical nursing experience in a SUD treatment setting and two years of supervisory experience.
• Willingness to undergo random drug screenings.
• Ability to work occasional shifts across various Los Angeles County locations.

Required skills

• Conduct CIWA and COWS assessments.
• Navigate and document in an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
• Apply medication protocols and manage controlled substances.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.
• Knowledge of CARF, DHCS Alcohol/Other Drug certification standards and Medi‑Cal drug regulations.
