Instructional Support Specialist – English Tutor

About the role

The Instructional Support Specialist (ISS) provides tutoring and academic support to students at Augusta Technical College’s Success Center, helping them overcome immediate educational challenges. This role focuses on English instruction and student success.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic support using strategic learning methods and address students’ immediate educational concerns.
• Demonstrate understanding of adult learners, varied learning styles, and differentiated instruction.
• Find and prepare teaching materials that match students’ abilities, goals, and interests.
• Maintain a positive, warm attitude that encourages learning.
• Monitor and document each student’s progress and provide progress reports as required.
• Utilize academic center monitoring software to track student utilization of services.
• Complete annual professional development activities.
• Perform basic administrative duties to support daily operations of the Success Center.
• Work a flexible schedule (morning, noon, and/or evening) based on the Success Center’s needs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution (minimum).
• High School Diploma or GED (minimum qualification listed).
• Master’s degree in the subject area (preferred).
• Familiarity with tutoring or supplemental instruction (preferred).
• Experience working with diverse populations and higher‑education retention programs (preferred).

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Windows 11 operating system.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications.
