Infection Preventionist

About the role

The Infection Preventionist joins Lehigh Valley Health Network’s dedicated team to prevent healthcare‑associated infections and control communicable disease transmission across the continuum of care. This role supports quality, patient safety, and regulatory initiatives within a nationally recognized health system.

Key responsibilities

• Detect, tabulate, evaluate and report infections among patients and staff, distinguishing between HAIs and community‑acquired infections.
• Serve as the network’s subject‑matter expert on infection control, providing guidance and education to staff.
• Conduct continuous surveillance of patients and personnel, reporting significant findings to the Director of Infection Control.
• Assist in developing and implementing hospital‑wide infection control programs and antibiotic monitoring reviews.
• Collect and analyze data, calculate attack rates, and present findings to the Infection Control Committee.
• Report potential communicable disease exposures to first‑responder agencies and state health authorities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in nursing, medical technology, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a clinical or microbiology setting with infection control responsibilities.
• Certification in Infection Control (CIC) and Pennsylvania state certification (CBINCEI).
• Knowledge of epidemiology principles and practices.
