Immigration Intern (Spring 2026)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee’s Immigration Department in Silver Spring, Maryland is seeking a motivated Immigration Intern for the Spring 2026 term. This internship offers hands‑on experience supporting low‑cost immigration services for refugees and newcomers.

Key responsibilities

• Review client immigration documents and assist with preparation for consultations and application sessions.
• Answer client questions, directing them to the appropriate IRC staff when needed.
• Provide general administrative support, including tracking, filing, and mailing documents, applications, and notices of action.
• Update client information in the Lolly Law database under supervision.
• Assist clients with document translation, authentication, presentation, and completion.
• Offer special assistance to clients with particular needs.
• Promote the immigration department through online and local networks.
• Research immigration issues, policies, and programs.
• Build partnerships with local agencies to improve service delivery.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in or within 12 months of completing a college degree related to international relief, humanitarian work, or refugee law.
• Passion for working with limited‑English speaking refugees; second‑language proficiency (Spanish preferred, French, Dari, Pashto a plus).
• Interest or prior experience with U.S. immigration law and outreach.
• Strong research, language, database management, and record‑keeping abilities.
