Hotel Engineer - Long Island

About the role

A hotel in the Long Island/Huntington area (Melville, NY) is hiring a full-time engineer. The role covers general maintenance and repairs across laundry, kitchen, guest rooms, convention areas and public spaces, with a pay of $18-$20 per hour.

Key responsibilities

• Follow work order policies and procedures and keep the supervisor informed of job and project status
• Maintain and repair equipment in laundry, kitchen, guest rooms, convention areas and public spaces, including refrigeration, plumbing and electrical fixtures to manufacturer's specifications
• Repair carpet, wall coverings, furniture, painted surfaces and cosmetic items, and replace burnt-out light bulbs
• Monitor life safety systems and report unsafe conditions immediately
• Clean and treat food and beverage floor drains weekly, maintain chemical levels in automatic mechanical systems and repair irrigation or sprinkler systems
• Complete other duties assigned by the supervisor, including cross-training

Required profile

• Ability to read, write and understand English
• Experience of 2-5 years preferred in a commercial or institutional maintenance environment
• High school education or equivalent (preferred)
• Valid driver's license preferred; ability to communicate with guests and staff
• Physical demands include frequent climbing of ladders and stairs, kneeling and lifting equipment up to 100 lbs

Required skills

• HVAC, plumbing or electrical skills
• Light carpentry and knowledge of paint and wallpaper
• Preventive maintenance background preferred; pool operation certification preferred
