Heavy Equipment Mechanic Shift Supervisor (Rotating Shift)

About the role

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Shift Supervisor oversees the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used at Washington Dulles International Airport and the Dulles Toll Road. This rotating shift position (2:00 pm – 10:30 pm) leads a team of mechanics, servicers, and electrical specialists.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate preventive maintenance and long‑term repair projects with supervisors, planners, and schedulers.
• Create, issue, and review work orders in the Authority’s CMMS, ensuring accurate labor and parts postings.
• Monitor and evaluate subordinate performance, conduct mentoring, counseling, and performance reviews.
• Prepare shift reports, accident/injury reports, and itemized repair estimates.
• Lead shift meetings, assign work orders, and supervise snow‑removal operations for airport and highway assets.

Required profile

• At least five years of progressive experience repairing heavy mobile gasoline and diesel equipment.
• Knowledge of supervisory principles and ability to manage a team.
• High school diploma or GED; valid state driver’s license and Class B CDL within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to work landside and airside with an AOA permit and respond to 24‑hour on‑call emergencies.

Required skills

• Heavy equipment repair and maintenance (diesel/gasoline engines, hydraulic systems).
• Electrical diagnostics, National Electric Code knowledge, and electronic control troubleshooting.
• Use of computerized diagnostic tools, wheel‑alignment machines, and CMMS.
• Class B Commercial Driver’s License operation.
