HVAC Utility Operator for Boilers & Chillers – $7,500 Sign‑on Bonus

About the role

The HVAC Utility Operator maintains safe and efficient operation of industrial boilers, chillers, heat pumps and related HVAC equipment at Washington Dulles International Airport. The position works evening, night and weekend shifts, responding to emergencies and performing preventive maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and act on after‑business‑hours trouble calls for HVAC equipment.
• Record and adjust meter readings on high‑pressure boilers, chillers and control panels.
• Restart boilers and chillers after power outages and troubleshoot malfunctions.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on HVAC systems during non‑emergency periods.

Required profile

• Four years of progressive experience operating industrial central‑plant heating and cooling systems, with at least two years servicing auxiliary equipment such as compressors, pumps and cooling towers.
• Knowledge of boiler and generator safety controls and ability to operate the Building Automated System (BAS).
• High school diploma or GED; state driver’s license in good standing.

Required skills

• Operation and troubleshooting of industrial boilers, high‑temperature/high‑pressure hot‑water generators, and chillers.
• Use of technical manuals, schematics, blueprints and computerized work‑order systems.
• Universal Certification (Section 608) for HVAC/refrigeration equipment.
