Head of Growth Data Science

About the role

Airwallex, the AI-native financial operating system for global commerce, is looking for a Head of Growth Data Science to lead the team that uses data, experimentation and advanced analytics to accelerate growth. The team works with Product, Marketing, Sales and regional business leaders to find growth opportunities across the customer lifecycle, from acquisition and activation to conversion, retention and expansion. This is a full-time role based in San Francisco.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a strategic data partner to senior leaders across Growth, Product, Marketing, Sales and regional businesses, turning complex analyses into clear recommendations.
• Establish a consistent, trusted framework for measuring growth performance across markets, channels and customer segments.
• Lead analytical work across the growth funnel and identify ways to improve channel efficiency, customer journeys, pricing and go-to-market performance.
• Build segmentation, propensity, attribution and optimization models, and scale experimentation frameworks to measure the impact of product, marketing and commercial initiatives.
• Apply causal inference to separate correlation from true incremental impact, and set best practices for experiment design and interpretation.
• Own forecasting and planning models, and build metrics, dashboards and analytical tools.
• Partner with Finance to link operating drivers with financial outcomes, and define a roadmap for machine learning and Generative AI in growth analytics.
• Build intelligent tools that automate insight generation and target customers, and work with engineering and data platform teams to productionize models and products.

Required profile

• 10+ years in data science, analytics, applied machine learning or quantitative strategy, including 5+ years leading high-performing teams.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Demonstrated experience partnering with executive and senior business leaders to shape growth strategy.
• Hands-on experience with experimentation, causal inference, forecasting or machine learning in a production environment.
• Experience productionizing Generative AI applications, intelligent analytics tools or agentic workflows.

Required skills

• Deep expertise in experimentation, causal inference, forecasting, applied machine learning, SQL and Python or R.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python or R.
• Experience with modern data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, dbt and Airflow, or equivalents.
• Preferred: experience in fintech, payments or high-growth B2B SaaS, and leading data science teams across multiple growth functions.
