Head of Compute

About the role

As Head of Compute at Cowboy Space Corp., you will lead the strategy, architecture and deployment of AI compute infrastructure that operates in orbit. You will turn power‑constrained, thermally challenging satellite hardware into a commercial‑grade GPU cloud platform that serves both space‑based and Earth‑based customers.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver end‑to‑end AI compute architecture covering GPU, CPU, networking, storage, orchestration and cloud‑control layers from concept through production.
• Define infrastructure requirements for training, inference and managed compute services, including rack, cluster, power‑density and thermal specifications.
• Develop scalable storage and networking solutions optimized for AI workloads across a constellation of orbital data centres.
• Establish testing, validation and qualification road‑maps for compute hardware operating in radiation‑exposed environments.
• Build and lead an agile engineering team, coordinate with satellite, launch, software and finance groups, and drive cross‑functional integration.
• Guide vendor selection, external partnerships and manufacturing strategies for space‑qualified components.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience designing high‑performance compute systems for constrained environments.
• Strong background in satellite or aerospace hardware, power‑efficiency and thermal management.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross‑functional teams and deliver complex projects on tight timelines.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and a passion for building next‑generation space infrastructure.
