Group Exercise Instructor – YMCA Eastside

About the role

As a YMCA Group Exercise Instructor, you will lead, engage, and motivate members in group fitness classes, promoting wellness and healthy lifestyles while creating a positive, inclusive environment.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and prepare safe, effective, and fun group exercise classes.
• Deliver classes that meet the diverse needs and preferences of participants.
• Provide clear instructions, demonstrations, and modifications for all fitness levels.
• Monitor participants to ensure proper form, technique, and safety.
• Respond promptly to accidents, injuries, or emergencies according to YMCA protocols.
• Maintain a clean, safe studio and report equipment issues.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; nationally recognized group exercise certification (AFAA, ACE, ACSM, or YMCA).
• CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or obtain within 30 days of hire).
• Previous experience teaching group exercise classes preferred.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Required skills

• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Design and deliver engaging group exercise sessions.
• Knowledge of anatomy, exercise physiology, and fitness principles.
• Motivate and inspire participants of all fitness levels.
