Genetics Nurse Practitioner

About the role

Jupiter Medical Center, ranked #1 for safety, quality and patient satisfaction in Palm Beach County, is hiring a Genetics Nurse Practitioner. The role manages the genetics program, complex patient care and the delivery of genetic counseling and expertise to patients, and works autonomously while collaborating with other practitioners, consultants, researchers and leaders.

Key responsibilities

• Counsel cancer patients on genetics and conduct comprehensive pre- and post-test counseling and ordering of genetic testing for cancer predisposition
• Prescribe oncologic testing, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and assess genetic laboratory results
• Serve as a resource for other providers and as a genetics counselor on the cancer committee, attending cancer conferences and committee meetings
• Educate patients and families on prevention, medical issues and treatment, and participate in the high-risk screening and survivorship programs
• Review and recommend changes to policies and procedures, and evaluate services against professional standards and the plan of care
• Review nursing and medical research and share findings, and promote awareness of genetics risks through presentations, community projects and outreach
• Maintain accurate, confidential medical records and electronic documentation of evaluations, diagnoses, treatments, referrals and consultations

Required profile

• Masters degree and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) credential
• Licensed in the State of Florida as an APRN
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association for healthcare providers
• Previous experience overseeing a genetics program
• High-quality case management and clinical competency, excellent verbal and written communication
• Ability to lift and move patients and equipment, including up to 40 lbs pushing/pulling and 50 lbs carrying/lifting, and to work in a stressful environment
• Annual Joint Commission mandatory education, TB/PPD surveillance and maintenance of professional licensure
