Future Talent Program – Biocatalysis Co‑op

About the role

The Future Talent Program offers a 4‑6 month co‑op in the Biocatalysis group of the Small Molecule Process Research & Development department. You will work alongside scientists in a laboratory setting to develop biocatalytic tools that support drug discovery, development, and manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Develop novel enzymatic transformations and expand the biocatalytic toolbox.
• Design and engineer proteins with new functions through directed evolution.
• Create and optimize microfluidic screening platforms, including automation and data analysis.
• Design and execute fermentation processes to produce robust enzymes.
• Maintain accurate electronic lab notebooks and follow safe laboratory practices.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering or Material Science.
• Completed at least two years of study toward a bachelor’s degree by June 2027.
• Available full‑time for 4‑6 months starting May 2027 and authorized to work in the United States.

Required skills

• Laboratory techniques: reactions, work‑ups, vacuum evaporation, chromatography, crystallization, precipitation.
• Analytical methods: HPLC, NMR, mass spectrometry, spectrophotometry.
• Fermentation process development (upstream and downstream).
• Molecular biology: PCR, biochemical assays, data analysis.
• Programming: Python or MATLAB, data visualization tools.
